1. Fan fiction on Selm
1.1. Selm is a platform where users write their own versions of stories inspired by existing works. Every story is linked to its source work and is labelled as a fan version when shared.
1.2. Rights to the original works, worlds and characters belong to their rights holders. Selm is not affiliated with rights holders; fan stories are unofficial and not endorsed by them.
1.3. We don’t claim that using other people’s worlds and characters is always free of rights holders’ rights. A rights holder may object to specific material — the procedure below is for that.
1.4. Authors of fan stories keep the rights to their own text to the extent they have them, and are responsible for publishing it (see the Terms of Use).
2. Catalog data and images
2.1. The catalog is built automatically from open sources. The source and license are shown on each work’s page in the app.
| Source | What we use | Terms |
|---|---|---|
| TVmaze | Series: titles, statuses, descriptions, posters | CC BY-SA 4.0, with attribution |
| Wikidata | Movies, games, books: titles, years, links | CC0 |
| Wikipedia | Descriptions and material for the canon brief | CC BY-SA 4.0, with attribution |
| Wikimedia Commons | Images for movies | The license of each file; author and license are credited |
| Shikimori, AniList | Anime and manga | These services’ terms |
| Open Library | Books and covers | Open Library’s terms |
2.2. Posters and covers belong to their rights holders and are shown only to identify the work. For movies and games without free images, Selm draws its own branded covers.
2.3. The canon brief prepared by the AI is a short summary based on open sources, with links to them.
3. How to file a notice
3.1. Message the support chat in Selm (@Selm_bot) with the topic “Content”, or tap “Report” → “Copyright” on the material.
3.2. Include:
- who you are and which rights you represent; if you act for a rights holder, proof of authority;
- which work you believe is infringed;
- a link to the material on Selm (a story, chapter or comment);
- what the infringement is;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised and that the information is accurate;
- how to reach you.
4. What we do
4.1. We review every notice and may ask for more information.
4.2. If the notice is justified, we hide or delete the material and tell the author.
4.3. If a notice lacks the required information or is clearly unfounded, we may reject it and explain why.
5. If you’re the author and disagree
5.1. If your material was hidden after a notice, you can reply through the support chat and explain why you believe it is lawful. We will pass your reply to the claimant and may restore the material if the claimant doesn’t substantiate their rights.
6. Repeat infringers
6.1. Accounts of users who repeatedly infringe others’ rights are blocked.
7. Trademarks
7.1. Telegram is a trademark of its owner. Selm is not affiliated with or endorsed by Telegram. Other names and trademarks belong to their owners.
